Lab to line approach in a 51-mile radius
Making Illinois the epicenter for
biomanufacturing and precision fermentation

Purpose & Key Goals
Leveraging Biology
Precision fermentation is a paradigm shift in manufacturing technology. Strategically leveraging biology can provide sustainable, domestic supply chains for products like industrial chemicals, food ingredients, textiles, agricultural inputs, fuels, and more.

Solving the Bottleneck
Currently, the potential of precision fermentation and biomanufacturing is bottlenecked by a lack of infrastructure, particularly in the United States. iFAB is working to solve this bottleneck by building shared-use fermentation assets and engaging stakeholders interested in seeing the biomanufacturing industry thrive.
Strengthening Illinois
By bringing together infrastructure, workforce, and funding, iFAB aims to make Central Illinois the premier destination for growing biomanufacturing companies by creating new jobs and fostering growth in the Central Illinois community.

FAQs
What is iFAB?
iFAB is a consortium of 35 consortium members who have joined together to grow biomanufacturing and precision fermentation in Central Illinois.
Where is iFAB located?
iFAB covers a three-county region in Central Illinois. Champaign, Piatt, and Macon Counties are the home for the Tech Hub.
